Spong brings the awesome. He's been hammering away at this issue (and several others) for some time now.
I don't think that Christianity itself is at its core the problem, as Spong, many Quakers, and (really) all number of queer- and queer-friendly laypeople show. The religion itself isn't morally bankrupt. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for a lot of the churches and their leadership.
